This picture was taken on my wedding day. One ring is my engagement ring with a pear-shaped diamond and small round diamonds on the band. The other ring is the wedding band with diamonds set in it two-thirds the way around.
I have always loved it. It was simple yet elegant. Terry did good in 1987!
If you have seen my left-hand ring finger these past few years, you would have seen two other rings I wore with this set. Both have a high sentimental value to me. One was a sapphire and diamond band that Terry gave to me on our 20th wedding anniversary. It has “I love you” engraved in it. The other was an emerald and diamond ring that I bought in India.
Last year Terry suggested that we “upgrade” my wedding set. I am sentimental and didn’t want to give up my original diamond. Also, I love my wedding set and didn’t want to replace the pear-shaped diamond. One day last November, I was watching a Bollywood movie (I love them!) and saw a setting of an actress with a pear-shaped diamond and another diamond beside it. I loved that concept. I paused the movie and took a picture of it so I could show Ali when we were able to return to India.
Finally, this past March, I was sitting on the floor in Ali’s living room on our first trip back to India since the pandemic. I explained to him what I wanted. He pulled out several packages of diamonds for me to look through. Terry and I picked out an oval-shaped one.
I wasn’t sure how to set it, but Ali had an idea. So, I let him take my wedding set and re-create what I hoped was a masterpiece.
We were again back in Jaipur a few weeks ago, and I was again sitting on the floor in Ali’s living room. He gave me a package. Madeline was with me. Terry had not arrived yet. I unwrapped the package, and there was my new ring. Madeline and I were amazed by the unique setting. As I slipped it on, I wondered what Terry would think and couldn’t wait for him to get here to show him. I couldn’t enjoy it until I knew he would like it.
An hour later, Terry walked in. I was a little anxious that he wouldn’t like it because it was a different setting. I got up from the floor and asked, “Do you want to see the new set?”
I reached out my hand, and he took it. Looking at it, he said, “Wow, this is so beautiful. I really like it.”
That was all I needed to hear! I couldn’t stop staring at it for the rest of the trip. Terry, with Ali’s help, did good again in 2022!
