Gemstone Cutting and Styles -Part Two

Gemstones are a popular choice for jewelry. Their vibrant colors and natural beauty help create works of art. In our last post, we explained how cutting each stone brings out its brilliance and enhances its visual appeal and value.

There are many different styles of gemstone cuts. In this post, we will look at three of these different styles of gemstone cutting, each with its unique characteristics and features.

Round Cut

The round cut is one of the most popular and well-known gemstone styles. This cut is characterized by a circular shape and is often used for diamonds due to its ability to enhance the gemstone's natural brilliance. The round cut is also used for other gems like sapphires and rubies and can feature different numbers of facets to create unique levels of sparkle.

Princess Cut

The princess cut is a square-shaped cut with pointed corners. It's a relatively new cut, developed in the 1980s, but has quickly become a popular choice for engagement rings and other jewelry. The princess cut is known for its ability to showcase a gemstone's clarity and is often used for diamonds and other transparent gemstones.

Oval Cut

The oval cut is similar to the round cut but elongated into an oval shape. It's a popular choice for gemstones like sapphires and emeralds and is known for its ability to create the illusion of longer, more slender fingers when used in a ring setting.

In our last blog of this series, we will discuss a few more cutting styles. Until then, look at the gemstones we have at Gems of Jaipur. There are so many styles to choose from. I am sure you will find just the right one for you!
